FIRST STEP RESIDENCY PROGRAM DUBAI 2022

Building directly upon the structural framework established during our initial international exchange iterations, the First Step Residency Program Dubai 2022 was initiated as a career-accelerating initiative. Designed for exceptional fine arts graduates at a crucial developmental stage, this residency provided structural access to the commercial and institutional art hubs of Dubai, giving early-career practitioners an uncompromised global trajectory.

Core Objective: To identify talent displaying robust visual maturity and build an instant bridge between academic focus and global professional networks.

The Selection Framework & Evaluation Criteria Following the hard closing deadline on 16th October 2022 (as detailed in Residency 2_3.jpeg), an international jury reviewed the competitive submission pool. The evaluation process utilized strict technical and conceptual standards to narrow down the final selection:

1 Rigorous Academic Footprint: Candidates were scrutinized heavily on their conceptual background and institutional recommendations, focusing on elite visual arts departments in Pakistan, including the National College of Arts (NCA), Punjab University College of Art & Design (PUCAD), and GC University Faisalabad.

2 Technical Aptitude & Medium Mastery: The selection committee favored portfolios displaying an advanced grasp of materials, whether through complex layered mixed media, traditional painting techniques, or alternative structural mediums capable of shifting context effectively.

3 Potential for Strategic Acceleration: The “First Step” platform explicitly favored emerging, unrepresented practitioners who possessed a defined artistic vocabulary but lacked critical access to major corporate collections, commercial representation, or international gallery ecosystems.

4 Conceptual Independence: A key benchmark was the artist’s individual ability to unpack personal narrative, regional identity, or spatial perspectives without falling back on formulaic compositions.
